Take care of your health—no matter where you are in the world—with the Cigna International Health Plan.
International Health Plan
You’re eligible to be enrolled in the Cigna International Health Plan when:
- You’re a full-time or part-time employee working outside of your primary country of residence on an international assignment, and
- Your assignment is for more than six months (180 days) and up to two years.
This plan provides medical and dental coverage while you’re on assignment. All other coverage in your home country will remain in effect (for example, life insurance).
You and your covered family members have all the advantages of Cigna services whenever you need them, wherever you are in the world.
Before you leave for your assignment, spend some time reviewing your Cigna Expat Global Health Benefits Welcome Kit. This kit will help you plan for your departure from your home country and learn how to access care while on assignment.
Telehealth
Global telehealth saves you money, time and a trip to the doctor’s or dentist’s office. Convenient access to quality health care is offered as part of your Cigna International Health Plan coverage—at no cost to you or your covered dependents.
Telehealth gives you access to licensed doctors and dentists around the world—by phone or video—for nonemergency health issues. Simply arrange a telephone or video consultation from the Cigna Wellbeing app (download from iTunes or GooglePlay). Appointments are often scheduled for the same day.
International assignments
Australia
CignaLinks Australia is provided in partnership with GU Health, one of Australia’s largest corporate health insurers. Through this partnership, you have access to a broad network of private facilities, often with shorter waiting lists, lower out-of-pocket costs and faster claims payments.
Action: You’ll receive two cards: a GU Health member card, which can be used in a hospital in Australia or for supplementary coverage, and a general Cigna card for use in other countries, if needed. These will be mailed to your address on file. Before making any appointment, find out if your doctor is registered by clicking the "Find a provider" tab. You can also call the number on the back of your GU Health member card. If your doctor isn’t registered, you may not be reimbursed. Register for payments.
Canada
When you’re on assignment in Canada, CignaLinks Canada helps make the health care process easier. Your care is covered by the CignaLinks Canada network at 100%. Applicable coinsurance will apply for retail pharmacy, paramedical services, and dental and vision benefits.
Action: You’ll receive two cards: one cobranded Cowan card, which can be used in Canada, and a general Cigna card for use in other countries, if needed. These will be mailed to your address on file. Before visiting any health care professional or facility, be sure to activate your Cowan Pay-Direct ID card. You can also activate your card by calling 1-844-703-7483.
UK
When you live and work in the UK, you have access to care provided by the National Health Service (NHS). With CignaLinks UK, you’ll get top-notch coverage with health care professionals and facilities who may not be part of the NHS.
Action: You’ll receive your Cigna card at your address on file. Soon after arriving in the UK, be sure to register yourself and your family with the NHS.
